Review The Bulgari Cartel

Oh my goodness, The Bulgari Cartel: The Inc. completely swept me away! I dove right back into the world of Mesha Mesh's writing, picking up seamlessly from "Wrapped Up with A Don," and I was instantly hooked. Naeem and Tatum's story is just…intense. Their relationship is a rollercoaster, a thrilling mix of fiery passion and heartbreaking betrayal. Tatum's actions in the previous book had me ready to throw things, but I appreciated seeing her growth and the way she eventually confronts her mistakes. The way Naeem and Tatum ride for each other, their unwavering loyalty despite everything, is truly aspirational – even if Naeem's methods are sometimes a little…extreme. That whole locked-room scene? Hilarious and cringe-worthy in equal measure! It perfectly captured their complex dynamic.

But what really stole the show for me was the introduction of Khalil and Felicity. Their chemistry is electric; a spark that crackled off the pages. I absolutely cannot wait for their story. The way they challenge and push each other, the subtle softness that emerges despite their initial friction— it’s all so captivating. Their relationship feels fresh and unique compared to Naeem and Tatum's already established bond, offering a different perspective within this complex mafia world.

Mesha Mesh masterfully crafts a world where the stakes are high, and the consequences of every decision are far-reaching. The twists and turns kept me guessing, completely immersed in the narrative. While I adored the central romance between Naeem and Tatum, I did wish for a bit more depth regarding Naeem’s background, particularly his mixed heritage, his ascension to the head of the cartel, and some insight into the family dynamics that shape him. Similarly, I craved more backstory on Tatum and her parents to fully understand her motivations. That being said, the introduction of The Inc. itself was expertly done, and the glimpse into its origins was thoroughly engaging.

I also appreciated the exploration of the complexities of family loyalty. Felicity’s journey resonated deeply with me. Her initial defiance of her family, stemming from a deep-seated pain, and the subsequent sacrifices she’s forced to make highlight the devastating consequences of broken familial bonds. She doesn’t fit the mold of a typical mafia damsel, and her strength in the face of adversity is admirable. Her story, alongside Khalil's, promises to be just as compelling and emotionally charged as Naeem and Tatum’s.

The only minor critique I have is a slightly abrupt ending, leaving me wanting more immediate resolution. It felt a touch "cut off," leaving some loose ends to be tied up in subsequent installments, although the cliffhanger is effective in setting up future volumes. However, this is a minor quibble in an otherwise brilliantly executed novel. The overall plot was gripping, the characters were well-developed and relatable (despite their morally ambiguous choices), and the world-building was excellent. The Bulgari Cartel: The Inc. is a fantastic start to the Monsterz series, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book. Four and a half stars!
